KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to launch the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) Convention 2016 this Saturday. The convention is scheduled to be held at 10am at the Sabah Cultural Centre in Penampang. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and other Barisan Nasional (BN) component leaders are also expected to attend the opening of the conference. The Upko supreme council decided to postpone the Triennial Delegates’ Conference – which was supposed to be held this year – for 18 months, and instead hold conventions at the divisional, zonal and central levels. Acting president Datuk Seri Madius Tangau said he believes conventions held at the zonal and divisional levels reflect the party’s sincere struggle. The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister said Upko has become more mature and improved in all aspects, especially after the 13th general election. “This was due to principled leadership and service given to the people, which were the continuation of the solid struggles by the party’s fore-leaders, namely Tun Fuad Stephens, Datuk GS Sundang, Datuk Peter Mojuntin and Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, among others. “No doubt, tomorrow will be more challenging… but I am confident that our community will be able to walk at par with the others under the Malaysia sun,” added Madius.
